Betta Costs

How much do bettas at your lfs cost? The VT at mine are $6. But i went in the other day and saw Female HM that were $22. and short tailed males that were $16 these seem like very hight prices to me. But they usually only have VT so i can understand y they are so high.

tbh, if a lfs is selling bettas for £15 gbp or eqv in $, I wouldn't buy them, I'd go to a breeder.

WOW i would love to see the deluxe betta. So if someone bred a crown tail they would get like $5 for one and bettas have alot of babies so that would be alot wow.

DO you know anyone that breds bettas on this forum?

Male bettas range from £4 to £5 (for double tails, HM's, crowntails, veiltails - all types basically)

Females are around the £3 mark; or £2 each when I bought them.

Okay, everyone, a Deluxe betta I think is kind of stupid. it is a really rare line that pops into stores every year or so. They almost never have them in. last time I saw the Deluxe bettas, they were Orange bettas, whitch are hard to find, unless you go to a breeder.
The prices our pretty bad, at this hsop, but the bettas are high quality- I have bought over 30 from there and they all lived to at least two with no major health problems. The occasional ich here and there, but always really easy to clear up.
The prices our really bad at Aquariums West, but I love there fish, I will never go any where else.

I have no idea, about betta breeders, but I bet Assaye , Oldman, Waterdrop, or one of the Leader of the Fishes know. You should post a new topic concerning that. Where are you located?

This is very true. I guess I'll just see what comes into the LFS in the next week-ish. They get some more stock on Fridays but my tank won't be ready by then, so I'll go next Friday. If anything really catches my eye... Cheaper from there as well I guess. But meh, we'll see.

Once you look at them probably 10 will catch your eye that you'll want to take home.

there is a major difference from getting stressed from being shipped and lfs stressed; it's health and knowing where your betta is from. lfs purchase their bettas from betta farms, which is a stressed environment, those bettas will most probably have poor genetics and immune systems, meaning that they will be open to near enough every illness going. 9 times outta 10, if a lfs betta gets finrot, it will be a major issue getting rid of it.

private betta breeders have good genetics, you will know the strain that betta is from, it will be much healthier and less prone to illness.

a quality bred betta will go to live on a good 4 - 7 yrs, if looked after properly. the average life span of a lfs brought betta is about 2yrs.

I have 5 fermale bettas from a private breeder, yes they were stressed from a 24hr shipping experience but within 5 mins of being placed into my tank, they were perfectly fine.

I had 6 lfs brought bettas, 5 female, 1 male. the male had a 3 month battle with finrot, i did everything to get him over it, he kept coming and going until it eventually killed him. My girls have been ok and after alot of good care, they are flourishing but you can tell that they are of poor quality, compared to my breeder bred bettas.

My male is an orange butterfly; I saw him and fell in love with him lol...thus starting my betta obsession. I got him from a run of the mill pet shop; and there was two of them in. One with black marbling on him and the other without (I picked the one without; although he does have a tiny bit of marbling, mainly on his 'arm' fins).

i'm not breeding yet but i am in talks with someone about a joint breeding venture with my 2 knew girls. fingers crossed x
