Hi all

Just after some advice really. Have a 30l cube that’s planted and has a male betta in it. Was reading on google that it’s possible to keep a Cory in the tank too as it’s a bottom feeder etc, mainly to clean up the surplus on the bottom.

Also thinking of an Amano shrimp to munch a bit of algae that’s present?

Have got a few hides in the cube so shouldn’t be a prob with Redbeard!

Any thoughts and comments welcome

Thanks :fish:

I'm afraid the sites you read gave you some misinformation. Cories are shoaling fish which should never be kept as just a single cory. And they may be bottom feeders but they can't live on leftovers, they need their own food. If there is uneaten food on the bottom of the than, you are over feeding the betta.
A 30 litre cube won't have enough space for a shoal of cories - the larger cories are just too big and the dwarf cories need a shoal of at least 10 which is too many for a tank this size.

Shrimps are hit and miss with bettas. Some accept them as tank mates while others will kill and eat shrimps. The problem is you can't know which type you have until you put shrimps in there and it's an expensive way to find out.
Shrimps also need company of their own kind you you would need a few amano shrimps.

The other alternative is a snail. As you re in the UK, you won't be able to have apple snails, but nerites are fine with bettas and I think those snails sold as Sulawesi or rabbit snails would also work.
