I want to breed bettas, will this work - if i get 4 female bettas for my 20 gallon, 1 male for my 5g and then once hes made a bubble nest, put the female in the 5g or could i just house the male betta in the 20g with the females?

Neither would work - - you need multiple tanks for breeding bettas, and up to hundred of tanks for rearing fry - - they need to be raised individually.

If you are trying to make breeding work with just the 2 you have now, it will not be successful.

Also, this is going to take a LOT of energy, money, space, and equipment.

Also, have you planned as far as breeding for specific traits? Betta offspring can be hard to move, rehoming potentially hundred of bettas can be quite a daunting task.

Sent you a PM. All I can say is there are lots of sights out there with detailed information on how to breed, I linked you my site but try googling it too as every one has different ways that suits them. Once you know all you can then decide if you want to breed or not :)

I found a male betta in my 60ltr female tank. My girlfriend had bought him for me and put him in there the night previously and didn't tell me anything. I only noticed the next morning when they were breeding and loads of eggs up at the bubbles. I was pretty amazed as it was quick. The fry I've moved into another tank and obviously sepetated the male and females. 41 fry in total.
I have a LFS who will take my fry when they get to a reasonable size but I'll obviously have to move any males into their own tanks.
Work out what your going to do with your fry beforehand. Ask a LFS if they will take them off your hands.
