hi i have a lovely blue and purple colour male betta he is georgus, however he is is a comunal tank doing great but he has no friends is it advisable to give him some lady friends?

i know nothing about this fish i seen him at my lfs and had to bring him home about a month ago he looks so lonley

not really advisable to put a female betta in there, they can both be aggressive and for breeding purposes both fish have to be conditioned first.
I'd say if you want to consider a community tank, do your research, and have a back up plan, like a secondary tank for the betta or sectioning off part of your tank incase of problems :)

I have a community tank but luckily for me I have a very placid betta, and my tankmates are good too (though I wouldn't recommend a tank with neon tetra....)
I find my danios are fine, little fish like cherry barbs and white cloud mountain minnows also make good tankmates...but nothing with long flowing fins like guppies which the male may mistake for another fighter!

any more questions just ask.....and ask in the betta section as people know their stuff in there :) :good:

I have to say that any kind of Barb is a bad idea with bettas as they tend to be very playfull and nippy which will only stress the betta out. It is bad news to add a female in with the male as he will tend to bully her and he may even kill her. Yes i do agree their are exceptions to this but these are definately a minority. If you do decide you want to risk it i sugest you follow what hollyp0p has said and be sure to have a back up plan for him. You will find that a betta would rather be on his own in a nice 3-5gal tank.

You could always get 4 or more girls if you have a big enough tank as these can go in together and are fine in a community (again with a few exceptions)

Hope that babble was of some help :good:
