So i have had my betta for around i'd say 1-1/2 months I got him from work, fairly small, and grew him out in a 1 gallon bow (heated). No he has reached the size where i feel he need a five gallon.

I set up the tank on Saturday night with gravel/pfs mix. I put 3 HBH Betta pellets (buying NLS friday) in and some microbe-lift special blend. I gave the tank 24 hours, I know it is a really short period of time, added 5 crypt wendtii bronze(clumped them together) from my mother plant  in my 60g and a small piece of jungle val with a small sprouted runner, and a seachem root tab from the same tank. I plan to dose ferts once a month.

The filter is a Marina S10 Slim filter. It has custom media in it, Filter foam, 100 micron filter cloth and seeded media from the 60g. The flow adjuster is broken so I made a diy pop-bottle filter baffle.
I aclimated and put the betta in Sunday night, because the plastic plants in his grow-out tank tore his fins.he was visibly happier, and I thought he was a bi-color but once in the tank I realized he is tri/multi because his colors actually decided to appear!

I was thinking of adding 2 amano shrimp, a piece of Malaysian driftwood (to replace very fake looking decor), a marimo moss ball, and anubias nana on the malaysian driftwood, the light is a 13watt cfl for aquarium plants (needs to be replaced as its 2 years old and was used when i had a betta in there 2 years ago (he lived 1 year in my 10g, then another in the 5g).

I want the tannins from the wood in the water and was wondering how i could make the wood safe but not leach all the tannins during the boil process. would a toothbrush scrub be sufficient?

I also did a 25 percent water change today in case there is a spike, should I continue this daily for a week?

P.S. the tank usually 26-28C, and I am adding pond snails, I quite enjoy them as they are a free cleanup crew and i'm sure my betta would enjoy a free snack every now and again.

I think you are on a great track.  If you have seeded media from your larger tank than I wouldn't worry about changing the water every day.  Going to a weekly waterchange should be fine.  Where did you get the wood?  The reason I ask is you might just be able to rinse it off and toss it in the tank therefor leaving the tannins to leech into the tank.

We require pics of the betta and the tank.  :D

Do you have any liquid water tests to make sure that your water quality is good? I know you have seeded media, but it's always a good idea to keep an eye on parameters on a regular basis (weekly usually with smallish tanks like yours).
I have 3 amano shrimp in the 30L with my betta and his companion platy and they are a marvellous clean-up crew! They are constantly eating and look like they are stamping their feet all the time! lol
