I just went to my LFS and noticed a really sick looking beta, thats cramped in a tiny tank with a lot of loaches, and a plec. I want to rescue him but the only tank i have is a 35 litre one, that already has 3 guppy's, 2 sword tails and a couple of neon tetra's. I just wanted to know would it be safe to put him in with these fish or would it be cruel putting him in a tank which could cramp him a bit more,
Thanks

I don't think I would add the betta to the current tank you have no with all the fish in there. It seems like you have it pretty full already. Also the betta will not get along with the guppy's more then likely because the guppy's will look like another betta to him. So if you decide to get him, find another container for him.

No I wouldnt risk it either, Ive tried 2 betta in my community tank (seperately obviously) the first one attacked a neon and it ended up dying and the 2nd betta just started attacking everything - including neons and the guppys.

Why don't you pick up a nice online gallon tank from walmart or something (They're like $12) or a 2 gallon for like $16 then you could save the poor boy and give him a proper home.

Just rescue him and put him in an anything for the time being :good:

Yea, if you have a large plastic container in the kitchen to put him in untill you buy a proper tank. Anything can be better than what hes in now.

:good:

Or you could buy one of those 10gallon tanks (nothing included.. it's just the tank) for 10dollars!
Or just save up 20dollars more and get a 5gallon hex tank from walmart (if you have one near you)

I have my boys in 1 gallon - 3 gallon containers/tanks (different sizes) However in a pinch I have used a 2 liter soda bottle. (with the part where it starts to form into the opening of the bottle cut off of course) (Upgraded to a gallon the next day, and then a 2.5 gallon a few months later) So nearly anything in a pinch will work.

If you get a 1 gallon container (same with a 2 gallon, etc) - you don't nessarily have to filter it. Just keep up on your water changes. Personally I change my gallons once a week and my larger tanks and the 20 gallon every other week. My 20 gallon is filtered - the rest are not.

If you want you could add a bubbler to the water - just keep it on a very low setting....

To see exactly when the water should be changed, I'd suggest getting an ammonia test kit. Test the water once per day - when you start to see the ammonia, then you know it's time for a water change.

If I were you I'd definatly pick him up! (Then again I love rescuing fish)

When you first put him in the water do you use warmish water or cold water, i could take water from my other aquarium would that do??

Yep Id use the water from you already existing aquarium - the chlorine in tap water could damage him. Obviously if you are going to use a de-chlorinator try and use warmish water and then acclimatise him slowly.
When are you going to get him?
