hi whats the best way to polish the water so its crystal clear?

i have a 180l tank running an eheim 2028 with filter wool in top tray but still have loads of floating particles.

i have sand in tank and a few live plants.

would it be better if i have a little internal as well or buy one of those chemicals that clear it?

Hi, the best way to have crystal clear water is by having a good tank maintenance routine in place.

Try a large (75%) water change and clean your eheim at the same time (use tank water to clean the filter, not tap water).

I wouldn't buy any chemicals for it. They're just unnecessary. It's much more natural to do it with water changes, and the fish will thank you for it. :good:

.Mark and tikarman have great success with poly filter for making their tanks water crystal clear. They also use internals to polish it off.As BTT said doing water changes is a great way, disturb your sand to get all the waste up and then suck it out, anything from a 40-50% water change will leave the water much, much clearer/cleaner,

I can second that. I noticed my main 108l tank was starting to get a little dirty so I did a 65% water change on it, mainly to get dead leaves, etc out of the top of the tank. When I refilled the water was much much clearer, and has now stayed that way. I do 16% changes every other day, and a 50-70% change every Saturday. I also use a Poly media in my Tetra EX1200 but I need to replace it as it's now pretty much completely ruined. If you go the Poly route, make sure to replace it every month or so as it will restrict flow if it's left too much longer, due to the particles overwhelming the media.

The only and best way to have crystal, gin clear water is to periodically utilise a diatomic filter.

my water in my tanks is very clear you only see particles at feeding time from the pellets, what i do is waterchanges twice a week around 40% including in this i gravel vac the whole tank syphoning though every inch of gravel<not a quick task....lifting and moving all objects in the tank to get the poo etc, i have an fx5 running sponges/cyramics/pond stone things for filters,,,,will look up the proper name, another filters internals have sponge and filter floss in there chambers....it works but key is good ole wholesome waterchanges and elbow grease

Good lawd!! How big is your water bill??

rather than changing so much water, I use a gravel vacuum that returns the water to the tank after it has passed though a close knit material. The material catches most of the particles. Having a fairly heavily planted tank i like to keep my nitrates fairly high, around the 20ppm mark so big water changes are a no no.

some people use (for the sake of cheapness) cushion filling material. It is basically filter wool. You can pack it in as tightly as you want. Tighter packing means smaller "holes" for water to pass through = better filtration of smaller particles. Dont pack it so tight that the filter has to struggle though!

polyester pad in the filter, its got such a large surface area but in a tiny space its perfect for filtering the tiny particles (as supplied ina fluval plus 2 filter)
