Hi guys.

In the next few weeks I'll finally have my new tank set-up and will be looking to move fish from my old tank to the new one. The old tank once had a problem with the dreaded black algae, and whilst this is mostly eradicated it is not totally gone. I want to avoid getting that stuff in my new tank if possible, so I am starting from scratch on the new tank with new ornaments and new filter media. Once my new tank is cycled I will start moving the fish, but how to avoid taking spores of the black algae with them? What is the best way to do this? I could just net them and transfer them without water - we're talking about 10 feet here, but I'm not entirely happy with that. Any ideas?

Thanks

bag them up, float them in new tank, then net them out after equal temp has been obtained

Yeah I was going this way, but I was a little concerned about stressing them out too much by netting them twice. In the past I've tried netting them inside a bag and it seems to really scare the fish! Would it be best to stagger the move one species at a time to let them get used to the new tank?

Ok, why not bag some water from your new tank and float it in your old tank to temperature stabilise. Net fish and place in the bag then float in new tank to stabilise again. Cut bag and let fish swim out when ready, saves a second netting and no water from old tank gets in new tank.

That sounds like a plan! :good: Thanks doresy. Any thoughts on staggering the transfer?
