Best Way To Keep 'crystal Clear' Water

OMG Im not saying its FACT please look at the word in capital letters C A N.

wow! politness isn't a strong point of yours but it seems ignorance is. Any filter in that respect can keep water clear, including crappy fluvals, however it won't remove tannin from the water to the point that it is crystal clear.

AquaClearer™ Extreme Dry contains bacteria and enzymes that are scientifically blended and tested to produce maximum results in ornamental ponds. These specific beneficial microbes and enzymes are effective at reducing sludge, uneaten fish food, fish waste, and excess nutrients that cause poor water quality and clarity.

Keeps your water clear, your fish health, and your pond beautiful

Safe for fish and plants

Ahh now I understand, in fact you have no proof at all and are just putting forward some advertising blurb you read of the back of a packet and are assuming it applies to everything. As I said earlier, bacteria will not remove tannins. Don't bother replying unless you have scientific proof stating otherwise.

I SAID it wont remove tannin !!!!!!!!!!

I could find scientific evidence to prove my point but im not going to spend my valuble time doing so just to prove you wrong.

P.s. i am a microbiologist. ! HA !

In short certain bacteria remove (eat) microscopic parts from the water making it clear.

Im done with this thread. out.

To your second point here:

Available in 4.6 oz. or 1.2 lb. or 5 lb. tub
Is this stuff being added to your tank to keep it crystal clear? If you are then you're not using JUST a basic Fluval.

P.s. i am a microbiologist. ! HA !
Somehow i doubt this.

Anyway...the only method i know of to dramatically clear your water is a UV sterilizer. i honestly don't know if it would work on tannins tho. i've never tried it. the only way that has worked for me is time and carbon.

Myself, I find the easiest way to keep your water crystal clear is to have a lot of excesse filtration and do frequent water changes.

For instance, I have 230gallons of filtration on my 55gallon tank, nearly 5x the tank's (supposed) required filtration. I also do a 50% water change minimum once a week, when I had larger, messy fish I did a 50% change twice or three times a week. This keeps the water nice and clear.

Also, be sure to clean the front and side glass as what may look like cloudy water could actually be water stains on the glass.

OH MY OH MY OH MY

Im not saying you have to use that stuff mentioned above for a clear tank!! im just proving the fact that bacteria (found naturally in a healthy tank!!!) help to clear water which is a fact (disputed by some on here)

The comment that started all this was that somebody said:
"The only way to obtain crystal clear water is to periodically use a Diatomic Filter"

And all I said was:
"Im sorry but I respectfully disagree, You can have crystal clear water with a basic fluval if the correct mumbers of "good" bacteria are present in a well cycled and happy aquarium."

And i stand by that statement!

Does nobody agree with me?????

p.s. I didnt spend 4 years at university so that someone i never met could piss all over my degree that i worked hard for (Bsc Microbiology @ Aberdeen University 2001). want me to fax it to you ? ? ?

OH MY OH MY OH MY <---Things like this can be misinterpreted very easily. It can come across as condescending. i'm not saying this to pick you apart or be mean but i feel it's totally unnecessary.

Im not saying you have to use that stuff mentioned above for a clear tank!! im just proving the fact that bacteria (found naturally in a healthy tank!!!) help to clear water which is a fact (disputed by some on here)True. You didn't say that but neither did i insist you had. i was only making the point that adding that stuff is not using JUST the basic Fluval. I wasn't pointing fingers. However, copy and pasting the ad for a product proves nothing. I've never heard of any bacteria that helps keep the water clear, only the type that processes ammonia and nitrite. i always thought it was the mechanical and chemical media in the filter that kept water clear. That doesn't mean that you're wrong but i'd like to see some legitimate scientific evidence from legitimate sources. a layman explanation afterwards would be nice too.

The comment that started all this was that somebody said:
"The only way to obtain crystal clear water is to periodically use a Diatomic Filter" i happen to disagree with this also but it might well be one of the fastest ways

And all I said was:
"Im sorry but I respectfully disagree, You can have crystal clear water with a basic fluval if the correct mumbers of "good" bacteria are present in a well cycled and happy aquarium." I agree with the first half of this statement. you can have clear water with just a basic fluval but, as i said above, i'd like to see proof about water clarifying bacteria before i agree with the rest. the problem is that the OP has tannins in the water and is trying to make his water clear again. I KNOW that over time, good mechanical and chemical filtrations works to remove tannins.

And i stand by that statement!

Does nobody agree with me?????

You're right. Who am i to say what you did and didn't do in your life and it was uncalled for. I apologize. However i'd like to add that making a statment like "P.s. i am a microbiologist. ! HA !", doesn't do you any favors. Forgive me but it's hard to take a statement like that seriously with a "HA!" after it.

I'm sorry jameshiggins. I wasn't trying to hijack or anything but i felt the need to respond.
