Hey guys,

I've had a 29 gallon freshwater community tank (5 tiger barbs, 4 tetras) and I've noticed that the Tiger Barbs are eating everything extremely fast and not really allowing the smaller Serpae Tetras the ability to eat enough. I was wondering if anyone knew any good techniques to feed a community tank besides putting a whole bunch of food in at a time.

Possibly a good bottom feeder later

Thank you all for your help.

put in a small amount of food and wait until it is eaten. Then add some more and continue doing this until all the fish are full
remove any uneaten food when you have finished feeding the fish.

basically it may come down to making sure enough food is put in to feed all of them

Colin,

What is your method of removing the excess food? Do you have some sort of old net that has a fine mesh or something?

fish can be greedy and will eat and eat and eat.

i would suggest ensuring that enough food is being put in around the tank in the first place.

i will feed my tank with bloodworms, then i add a good dose of flake to ensure all other fish get some food also.

either a fine mesh net or a syphon hose for the gravel cleaner.

I prefer to feed the dry food first and then the frozen or live foods next. This way the greedy fish, like barbs, fill up on flake or pellet foods and the other fishes get the more nourishing frozen or live food.

I have to distract my barbs by putting some food in one corner of the tank, wait for them to begin feeding and drop food in another place for the other fish
