Hi,

I'm shortly going to be starting my first planted tank and I was just wondering what the best fertilisers are that are cheap, effective and available online.

What do you recommend?

Thanks,
Josh.

Making your own would be the cheapest option, however for an all in one 'good quality' fert you cant go wrong with tropica plant nutrition (TPN+). All in one fert and untill you opt for the cheaper make your own method this would be what i would recommend

I can't seem to find Tropica plant nutrition+ on eBay

it will be cheaper in the longrun to buy this though.

ALthough on the last link, if you are willing to pay £17.99 for the 500ml bottle, you are better off buying the ingredients for making your own! At most it would be £10 more on top of that and last tons longer :) Also that site charges £5.99 postage!!

What are the ingredients?

it still would work out cheaper as the first link is for 100ml for £7.

I'm considering making my own, what do you all think?

Yes of course, i didnt mean to that i was kind of saying doing his own in the long run is more efficient :)

I totally agree, making your own is easy and a lot cheaper. Personally though i liked to get to grips with ferts first, before making my own.

It's up to you Josh, try and gain a little understanding on what the ferts are doing/do and it will come a lot easier.

As it will be my first planted tank I am a bit unsure. To start off, I might just use plant nutrition+

I am guessing the fert will be for your 125L Roma. Since you are going to go for low light plants, then you might as well get the normal TPN rather than TPN+. TPN+ really shines when used in high tech tanks but why not save your self some pennies and get TPN. TPN works fine in low light tanks
