I'm really impressed with the wealth of information on this forum and impressed by the aquascapes created.

My interest lies with small tanks (I'd like a Tropica Aquacube) and I'm unsure what substrate to use.

I was originally going to use Sera Floredepot but haven't seen anyone describe using it or their experiences.

Is it best to mix and match substrate with another brand's fertilizer ?

Your comments and advice would be much appreciated !

Thanks

Nick

Im using ada aquasoil on my nano when it comes, look into it, i've only heard amazing things about it. Only downside is an ammonia spike when you put it in, but thats good of you need to cycle the tank.

As for the setup, 5.5gal aquacube(one free with pfk), two 11watt arcpod units, 25watt heater, ADA aqua soil malaya, regular small internal filter that comes with the tank and a nutrafin yeast based co2 using the the forums solution (pinned topic). I'll just be dosing flourish exel and tetra plantamin, and planting with Eleocharis acicularis, Pogostemon helferi and Marsilea hirsuta all from tropica. The will also be hygrophila polysperma in there to begin with to ward off algae.

Nope, its a complete substate, theres no need to. It also looks better on its own :) .
