Hi, I'm new to the forum but not to tropical fish keeping. I had a fairly large tropical tank as a teenager (I'm 28 now) and have decided to start another smaller aquarium to house tropicals and live plants. I was just wondering if some of you would mind reccomending me a good quality, reasonably small tank to accomadate my needs. Probably around 2 feet max in length, with a decent lid that could house the necessary lighting to promote plant growth, preferably not a sealed unit as I got stung before when replacing a Juwel Rio lighting unit. I would like it if the filter and heater could be hidden behind some kind of built in fascia but it's not a deal breaker.

I look forward to your suggestions ! :)

Elite Style 60 - Very good quality but you'd want to replace the stingray with something like a fluval 2+ or fluval U1 (or U2 not sure which is more apt)

Tetra aqua art aquarium kit - Good all in one by the looks of things but I've never had one.

Juwel reckord 60 - Good quality but it's suggesting that you remove the internal filter and refit so it fits properly and snugly to the tank to avoid fish getting around the back.

Aqua one also seems like they have a nice range of 65l tanks.

If you want to go and have a look at some actually set up I'd definitely go to your nearest biggest pets at home. That should give you some ideas.

Please avoid biorbs and the fluval edge like the plague. For the money they cost they really aren't as good as your average rectangular tanks!
Yes it's personal opinion...but please consider it.

I can recommend the Tetra Aqua Art 60 (60 litres) and the Aqua One Aqua Start 500 (65 litres). I would recommend getting a Fluval U2 filter for the Aqua One - they often come with under-gravels which while good filters, are rather difficult to maintain properly and not very plant friendly.

While you're in the mood for research, check out the stuff here about setting up a new tropical tank and cycling.

Thanks alot for your recommendations. I have decided on the Aqua one, aqua style 620. I'm probably going to keep african cichlids or maybe a community tank, not quite sure yet.
