OK so lets start by making perfectly clear that I am a lazy sod ;)

And, as with most people although I do enjoy cleaning my tank and get ( forgotten the word, it begins with R :X ) for doing it but I waste so much time lugging water back and forward and although occasionally I do only have to carry the full bucket halve way through the house I then look forward to my parents complaining about rotting carpets.

I have looked into building or buying a python but both options seemed pretty pricey and complicated. For a while I have been trying to come up with a simpler solution and when I was in Aldi the other day, I found a 30m hose pipe for £6.99.

Now who needs a python when you sit at the top of a hill :) My house sits above the garden and there is a pipe for roof drainage runs through it. All I have to do is remove the pipe cover feed the house into it. Stick the other end of the hose over my filter for a few seconds and that is the suction started. Obviously to refill the tanks all I have to do is pull the hose back through the house and attach it to the tap.

Now I can do water change in my 60 gallon tank in under 30 minutes.

we do something very similar with a hose pipe

looooads easier than buckets

Interesting....

*strokes beard*

I haven't had the joy of doing a 10% water change on my 180 litre yet! But filling it up with a large bucket took about 45 - 60 mins! Water change will be quite a bit.

Do you fill up with tap water and then add dechlorinator? I thought that the chlorine will be bad in any amount on a cycled tank?

my best is my eletric gravel vac i use it to do my water change and put the water ack in with it take me 10 mins to do a change on my 50 gal :D :D :D

Dad got 2 of those today, mmmmmmmm Might have to hide one of them :shifty: :shifty:

lazy oh yeah, battery powered gravel vac just the job :)

water changes for me is like a workout lol, i might think of doing something similar

I now do the same for all my tanks. For my 100 gal i put my hosepipe in , lead it through the lounge and into the conservatory through the window and suck, then it drains outside in the garden.I do the same for my 20gal aswell. With my discus i just drain it into the bath.I like gravity :p Don't know how long it will take on my 270 gal when it's set up though :S

O also if you don't like to get a mouthful of water you can put one end of the hosepipe in the tank, other end on the tap, turn the tap on for a few seconds. Then pull the hosepipe of and turn the tap of and there you have it.Instant suction, the hosepipe will now be draining water from the tap.

i do something similar , i just take the spray bar of the external and attach the hose to the bit the spray bar connects to then switch the filter on and it pumps the water into shower basin :D, to refill i just take the hose off and attach it to the sucker that holds the spray bar in place then attach the other end to the mixer tap, takes no time at all
