i have just swapped over to keeping tropicals from cold
I used to feed my goldfish dragonfly larvae
is this ok for the tropicals ?
what else is a good easy food for tropical fish ?

in the tank i have guppys and minnows at the moment and wont be getting any larger fish than them :)

try live or frozen blood worm and daphnia your minnows will love you forever
scot :good:

Blood worm, brime shimp, mosquito larve, most fish love it, the frozen stuff is also pretty good, i used to defrost my blood worm and drain off the red liquid first. Live food is good about 2 or 3 times a week.

don't put dragonfly larvae in with minnows and guppies because they will eat the fish. Mozzie larvae, daphnia and aphids are good live foods for small fish.

thanks for all the replies glad i asked dont want my minnow and guppies eaten :o
right off i head to the LFS weekend for some bloodworm etc :)

take care Sarah xx

my fish go mad for bloodworm and daphnia have heard of people using mosquito larvae too

In the summer months its easy to get your own mosquito larvae, just leave a bucket of your tank water outside (at the bottom of the garden) for a few weeks, if your lucky you will get 1000's of them, just make sure you feed them to your fish before they hatch, annoying little things they are :good: i never seen my fish feed so well when i gave larvae.

does anyone know how long you can keep the frozen foods in the freezer for? i know it may sound sily, but i thought i would ask. cheers. N

good question nick - hopefully someone will answer :)

If they are sealed up in an airtight container, and the freezer stays frozen, it should be fine for a couple of years. However, if the food is exposed to air in the freezer then it should be used up in a month or so.
