Best Gravel?

I have a 33 gal tank with sand in at the min. It used to have an eheim 2075 on it which had 16mm internal diameter hoses. I had probs with the 2075 so I bought a eheim classic 2217+ which although the turnover rate is slightly less than the 2075, the classic uses 12mm internal diameter hoses meaning the output through the spraybar is actually more powerful.

Anyway, the new classic filter blows my sand to one end of the tank so I'm thinking of going back to gravel which I originally had. I have sterbai cories and a BN plec in the tank so would need smooth gravel. I prefer natural looking gravel rather than coloured stuff and I'm not keen on fine gravel. Last time I used Dorset pea gravel.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some nice natural looking gravel rather than the Dorset pea gravel?

Any suggestions would be great

I used the "Highland" gravel by Roman Gravel. It's quite pale but a nice mix of natural colours and fairly smooth. I keep corys on it and they have no damage to their undersides or barbels after nearly a year. They also do a darker natural mix that is very similar.

Thanks assaye, I'll have a look at that. I prefer natural looking gravel but I also like it quite light with a mixture of larger smooth rocks to create a focal point.

Do you know if it can be bought online? If so, where from?

No idea, I get mine from P@H. Just thought - it's quite fine? Could maybe mix it in with something else though. It is a nice gravel.

I think that's the one I have except mine's black. At least I got it from P@H, it's very smooth and "Roman" rings a bell

hey Andy, have you seen the Black Roman gravel? It does look really natural in the tank and its made of resin, so theres no sharp bits. I converted from sand to black gravel and used this one and i think it looks good. My cory's love it.

I think its just like a dorset pea gravel zoepop had in her tank.

it did start off as limpopo sand and then i added the Roman Black gravel, the pics on the last page is the black gravel.
