Bent Fish, Please Help Me.

Hi everyone,

i noticed that my female guppy was starting to bend and it got worse over night. please can you tell me what this is and how to treat it because i have no idea what it is and really would like to save her if i can because she is one of my favorite guppies.

Don't know how old she is... but she is bent sideways.. we noticed that there is a slight bump on her stomach.. do you know what it is?

I'm really sorry but whatever it is I don't think she has long left. It might be kinder to put her out of her misery.

Fish TB can cause bending like that but it's probably just a blockage in the bowel. Put it in a bath of epsom salts and feed it a blanched pea with the shell removed.

Most probably Fish TB or Neon Tetra Disease (both diseases can cause spinal curvature by destroying the fishes tissues in places). I would personally put the fish down. I haven't heard of constipation causing spinal curvature in fish before.

lets not all turn to the euthanasia option, try the salts and HOPEFULLY that could fix it..

It doesn't cause curvature of the spine. The fish bends due to the discomfort of the blockage. Suggesting euthenasia when such a simple treatment might work seems a little callous.

I'm not gonna suggest anything.Just share my experience.
I'm pretty familiar with those sympthoms in guppys having had alot of them showing those same ones in the past.
I never really figured what caused them.
This was many years ago of course and my knowledge was limited to say the least.
I will not tell to kill the fish thats your decision,but whenever my guppys started like that they never lived much longer,normally they would never make it trough the night,and worst is after the one showed those sympthoms others would follow.
Not sure what causes it,not sure if it is your case but in my own experience it was deadly,and keeping the fish together with the other guppys was a death sentence.
Strange however i only really got this disease wathever it is with guppys.

My guppies never lasted long when they started bending either. Try salts by all means but I seriously doubt there's anything you can do. Is she still able to swim or is she resting on her side? And have you actually done a net search for 'fish bending' or just asked here? The first few results will explain that the bending is a contraction of muscles and nerves, basically because the fish is dying. Whether that's the case here or not we can't be sure, but I don't think she'll last long.

Dunno if its your case but after your post i got curious into really finding out what is the reason for the bented spine and subsequent death of the fish.

Fish Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium)
S: Fish may lose color and appetite and become hollow-bellied. Fish become lifeless and often crippled—with a bent spine. Fish develop ulcers under the skin and may rupture causing open sores and "pop-eye."
A: This disease is highly infectious and deleterious. Bacteria can remain living in the gravel to infect other fish when they are weakened. Some success has been achieved by treating infected fish with antibiotics (Oxytetracycline and Kanamycin), although often it is best to kill the fish and put it out of its misery. When removing piscine tuberculosis victims, do so with care, as this disease can be transmitted to humans.

Dunno if its your case or if it was even mine but in my case honestly most symphoms fit.
