ive had my newer fry for about 2 weeks now, and ive just noticed one that look like he has a bent back. the other fry r like this ---- but Bendys like this -__-. is this something i should b worried about, will he die, can i treat and should i treat it, will it go away, or will he liv his life w/ a drooped back? theres also another 1 like this only its worse on Bendy. thnx! -heart  , ally86ozzy

also Bendys belly is drooped, but i think if his back wuz straight, his belly would be normal too.

This seems to be a common mutation. I've heard about it a lot and seen some fish in the pet store looking like that. there's no cure, but with enough care they do seem to be able to survive to adulthood, although I'm not sure about quality of life or anything. I'm not an expert though, so maybe someone with more experience can give you more detail. ;) sorry about poor Bendy!

There are proper terms for when a fish has a bendy back whether left to right or bent up or down from the head. I forget the names now. I get them on the odd occasion and they carry on growing fine. They look odd and some dont swim too well though so you might want to ""move" them on, you might say

The simplest answer is that there is nothing wrong that will hurt the fish itself but you do not want to leave a fish like that with normal fish and let it breed. If you have the room, you could separate it from any of its own species until it finally dies years from now of natural causes or take more drastic measures to protect the species from such a defect.

Hi
It may sound harsh but i tend to cull fish like this because as said if it gets to breeding age i dont think a female could give birth like this, and also if the fish is not as fast at swimming may not get to the food before the others eat it all. -_-
my uncle has had a fish like this for about 3 months but it didnt make it, not to say that yours wont.

i dont intend to interbreed them, so when i can tell sex i will seperate them by 2 or 3 tanks. i will keep males and giv away the females, and then spread out the males when the females r gone. if Bendy happens to B female then i suppose ill buy a small tank, 3 4 or 5 gallons, and keep him in there, cuz im sure nobody wants a mutated fish (except me of course). wuts "move them on" mean? i dont like the sound of that. he swims well when he wants to, 4 example he knos morning is his first feeding time so this morning, Bendy, Ben 4 short, wuz swimmin happily on the top waiting 4 his morning grub. i luv bein able 2 tell him apart.
His belly seems ligter this morning, but i think thats cuz he '# 2d' last nite, lol. thnx! -heart  , ally86ozzy

I have a mollie called Bendy too!!

Bendy was born about 13 months ago. It was clear from the start something was a miss, but dozens of batches of fry ment i forgot about him.

He is now a full grown male, beautiful black and white colours. He lives a full and enjoyable life, albeit a bit of a bendy one!!

I dought if he'd ever get a chance to breed as my other males are far to quick off the mark. I leave him to do his won thing and he seems perfectly happy.

As previously stated, you should not breed your deformed fish. As you are unsure what caused the deformity, this may be a genetic trait that can then be passed on to the offspring.
