Beginning A New 30" Marine Tank

tunze reef pack has magnet holders and the skimmer has 3 ways of installation and one way is to use on glass like this, but it depends on how big the glass is, i think the maximum for the skimmer is an inch or something. Look at the manual, there is a manual at the tunze website.

The glass that my tank is made of definately isn't thicker than an inch, but there is glass 'framework' at the top of the tank to allow sliding glass doors to rest there. That's my main concern.
I took a photo of the top of my tank when the lid is open, to better illustrate what I mean by the glass framework for the sliding doors - I thought that a lot of tanks had this? The photo is of the right side of the top of the tank taken through the open hood. You can see sliding glass door on the left, the water and plants in the middle from above as the door is slid back. Top and bottom are the pieces of glass supporting the doors and to the right is the piece of glass which the square hole is in (see the image I drew).
Obviously you'll have to look past the calcium deposits and bits of dead plant that are sitting about on the glass! I haven't cleaned it in ages, but it doesn't affect the water.

It seems that I could probably attach the Tunze to the glass using the magnets, but the skimming cup would be obstructed by the glass framework. So I don't think it would work in my tank. It's obviously designed for tanks that are a basic glass box without the glass at the top.

no they fit with glass like tops like that, it says it in their manual. Just how big is the glass exactly, thickness wasnt the right word, just how long and wide are the glass at the top of the tank?

Hob filter wouldnt work either i dont think.

Before I got a chance to read this I decided on a Deltec MCE300 and bought one online. I'm pretty sure that a HOB skimmer will work with my tank as a friend of mine has a tank with the same sort of glass at the top of the tank and she has a HOB. There's just a small modification to the hood to accommodate the collection cup. So hopefully my Deltec will work out OK... otherwise it'll be going on *the auction site* lol.
Thanks for all your help Musho... even though I didn't decide on the Tunze Nano, you provided me with some extra information about the Remora which helped me make up my mind. Much appreciated!

oh ive heard pretty good things on the deltec, there was a thread earlier that had what are the top 10 skimmers and deltec and tunze always made their way into the list (but i havent seen them at first, those first place ones are those 700-2000$ skimmers for 500 gallon tanks etc)

Yeah the Deltec MCE600 is supposed to be ace, but it would be major overkill for my tank so I got the MCE300! Hopefully it will work out well ^_^
