Hi guys!
Basically, tomorrow I am off to my local pet store to purchase my new tropical fish!
BUT before I actually get there, I'm a bit puzzled on which fish to get? I definitely want guppies as they are a magnificent colour and wonderful to look out.

Any suggestions would be helpful please! Thanks.

:hi: to the forums! I'm glad that you found this site because it is one of the best you'll ever find. If you need help go to the beginners section of the forums. Also make sure to check out this link. It will show you how to cycle your tank the best and fastest way possible, fishless. I hope that you feel welcomed. Also don't forget to ask alot of questions, after all that's what we're here for.

For the method I'm doing the add and wait, because I feel it is the best method for me.

I also forgot to add, my tank is a 35L

You need to cycle it before you add fish or they will ALL DIE! ;)

Happy to hear that. :D

I would recommend some nice platys. ;)

+1 platys are really nice. :good:

you could have endlers, a shoal of neons (at least 6 so you'd be pushing for space after that!!), dwarf corys??

just a few ideas..good luck.

:hyper:

2 platy fish
3 guppies
6 neon tetras fish
2 Honey gouramies

How does that sound??

Swordtails would be too big for the tank of his size. Instead Honey Gouramis try to get two Dwarf Gouramis so you have room for more Neons or an extra Platy.

A pleco in a 35L!?!? Nooo... Bad move, not only is this tank size waaay 2 small for a pleco but they also produce a lot of waste so good filtration would be vital as well as more frequent water changes plus you would have to add driftwood to the tank for a pleco further reducing space. Even if it was a bristlenose that grows up to 6 inch the tank is still too small. I would say 100L+...

I would stick to the previous suggestions and go with neons and platys. And deffo some dwarf corys, I have peppered and sterbai and i love them. I should imagine the dwarf corys are just as much fun to watch :)

ok sounds good.
So I'm thinking:

3 guppies (Or should I get more guppies?)
8 neon tetras fish
2 Dwarf Gouramis

Its been through the cycle, everything is ready to go :)
Wow, not much comment about that. What kind of cycle did you do? How many days did it take (many that we watch here take between 4 and 8 weeks or so, a lot going about 70 days or so it seems.)

Was your biofilter able to pass a qualifying week? That's how you test if it is ready. If you dose 5ppm concentration of ammonia and then the filter can process that to zero ppm ammonia and zero ppm nitrite(NO2) within 12 hours of when the dose was put in and repeat that for a week the you can trust that your two bacterial species are robust enough for fish. A good liquid-reagent based test kit must be used for the measurements.

Forgive me for belaboring this (as you may have just finished doing all this for months (!) but we have hundreds of cases come through here and many, many newcomers have been given a wrong idea about cycling from other sources.
