So I am in a similar predicament to Snowflake with regards to having a 5ft (100gal) tank that I have naughtily overstocked with:

1 x Chocolate cichlid approx 7"
1 x Blua Acara 6"
1 x Convict 5"
1 x Blood Parrot (5-6")
3 x Firemouths (3" male, 4" female and 5" male)
1 x JD juve 2-3"
1 x ruby shark (that i rescued from a colleague who was going to flush the poor #28###)
4 x Tiger barbs
4 x Congo Tetra's
2 x Bristlenose plecs (1 male + 1 female successfully bred previously)
1 x Snowball plec

I clearly need to cut this down but don't know who to move on, an suggestions are welcomed...... I was thinking maybe to remove ruby shark, congo tetra's, tiger barbs & 3 FM's. And replace with a new dither (suggestions welcome)but not sure if what would be left works???

Just my own personal preference but I'd lose these:
 • 1 x Blood Parrot (5-6")
 • 3 x Firemouths (3" male, 4" female and 5" male)
 • 1 x ruby shark

Maybe get rid of the tiger barbs and replace with more congo's?

Is this a 5ftx18?

I would probably do something like

1 x Chocolate cichlid approx
1 x Blua Acara
3 x Firemouths - Though maybe just cut that to 1 male 1 female?
1 x ruby shark
8 x Congo Tetra's
2 x Bristlenose plecs
1 x Snowball plec

Or

1 x Chocolate cichlid
1 x Blua Acara
1 x Convict
1 x Blood Parrot
1 x JD
1 x ruby shark
12 x Tiger barbs
2 x Bristlenose plecs
1 x Snowball plec

Although bar your chocolate cichlid you dont have any foot sized adult cichlids so I would be tempted to say see how it goes dependent on aggressive natures and your water quality it might work out but out of personal choice I would get rid of the parrot :p and also perhaps rehome the smaller male FM as that would seem the most obvious hazard so to speak when all the FMs hit sexual maturity.

Yup it stinks trying to make the cut.

What fish can you not let go?

I would do
1 Chocolate
1 Blue acara
2 Firemouth
2 BN plecos
and then have 6 dithers.

Its easy to help with another persons tank but when its your own I just hate to do it. BUT I did this to myself I had to get discus and well that took my 80Gal. Oh well.

Agreed. :)

Ultimately, I think only you can decide which of your fish appeal to you the most, and thus you want to keep most.
The other factor is obviously aggression but, yet again, you are the only one actually seeing them in situ in your tank, and how they relate to each other.

As for potential problems, I'd say the convict, the JD, the shark and the blood parrot have a greater than average chance of getting overly aggressive at some point. As could the firemouths as and when they breed.

However, they are all individuals, and only you can assess which characters get on well, and which don't.

Good luck in making the right choices.
