Ok, I'm collecting the rescue fish this weekend. Sorry Star4, she now tells me it's not a Convict but is from the Cichlid family. I'm going to see if I can borrow a camera and take some piccy's for you guy's to ID for me.

The plan is to put some dechlor water in the plastic container then add water from the fishes tank when I collect. I will use the heater that hopefully I can get out of the tank at the same time. I don't however have a spare filter, will it be OK to keep them in the plastic container, with plenty of water changes untill I can re-home them, I will be looking at hopefully some of you nice peeps to help out here. Or the only other temp solution, not ideal but I was going to empty the 60 litre of everything, fish and snails/plants go into the 120 litre, gravel in a bucket and have the plec and cichlid in there, this has a filter. Would really welcome your advice and thoughts. I really want to help these fish as their current living conditions are bad.

Oh yes, for those who don't know there's also a 20" Plec.

If its definately some sort of cichlid there are a couple of tanks I could put it in, depending on what it is of course lol. As for the plec, Erdington Aquatics will sometimes take in large plecs, but to be honest I dont really like the shop much (too many dead fish!). Shirley aquatics maybe able to help also, depending of course if they have space. I wish I could take him I bet he is stunning at 20", its a shame I have 2 5ft tanks sitting in the garden waiting to be set up, but have absolutely no way of getting even one up and running to house him.

As for the 60l tank, for a very temporary measure it would be better than a plastic container so long as you secure the lid, plecs can jump!

Thanks star4, as I said I will try and borrow a camera and take pic's so hopefully you or somebody can ID for me, I think the plec could be just a common one, but will also take pics also. The lady did tell me that there was also a Neon in there aswell? Oh yes, what med should I use if any on the rescue fish, just incase they are harbouring any hidden problems. Thanks. Oh yes I forgot to add the 60litre has sliding glass lid's.

Best use an antibacterial med Interpet or melafix is what I use, then as a precaution or if you notice white stringy poo I use Sterazin which controls internal worms gill and body flukes. Sterazin saved my to big plecs

Thank's, have made note, I will have to go through my meds at home first. Then go down local pet shop and see what they have.

I could take the neon with the cichlid if you dont want it, my 2 year old has neons in his tank.

I think its great you are helping these fish :)

 I'm taking her word there was one in there, I could just about make out the cichlid, maybe I will be opening pandora's box this weekend.

are you going to be keeping the 20" Plec and cichlid in 60l until rehomed? With no filter? You will be doing more than 1 water change a day then, those two fish are very messy, let alone they should'nt really be in 60L. :good:

No the 60 litre is fully cycled with a heater and filter, if they stay in the plastic container, I don't have a spare filter for that. Which would mean loads of water changes for that. As stated earlier I was planning to empty the 60litre of everything bar the heater and filter, which will help with the vac cleaning aswell. Luckly star4 (depending on what it is, may take the Cichlid) it's just the plec that may take a while to re-home. Then when I get the new Tank in situ, the community will go into there, and the threadfins will go back into the 60 litre. I hope that helps

ok, are you using an internal filter for the 60l, keep an eye on the water stats once the Plec goes in there, is there more than likely will be an Ammonia Spike. :good:

Yes, it's only a aquaflow 100, I always do a 50% water change weekly on both my tanks. The 60 litre has loads of baby apple snails (which poop for england) with the threadfins and Inky the betta. So that's why I thought If I have the tank down to the bare bones (as it were), this would help. What do you think, by the way the fish and snails are moving into the 120 litre temp untill the plec and cichlid and anything else I find are re-homed and the new larger tank is up and running. Oh yes and we are in the middle of decorating, have I built a rod for my own back or what?

I have just e-mailed a lovely chap I know with a 7ft tank who is looking for cichlids, so if I cant take the mystery fish he maybe able to. I dont know whether he would take the plec, but I have sent him the link to this thread just in case he can help.

We are in the midst of building a conservatory, re-decorating and finishing the garden its a nightmare lol. I will help where I can with homing fish for you.

Is he local? That's very kind of you. Hopefully on Monday I'll have pics to help. Plus one of me slumped over plastic containers and paint pots.

He is Dudley way, he helped me out taking some texas cichlids from me, so I am hoping he would come to you if need be. Looking forward to seeing the pics on Monday lol
