Hi all,

Thought I would share my find with you people as my fiancée wont understand my excitement (bless her, she does try). Just popped into the gold fish bowl during lunch as was very bored at work and needed to get anyway for a few minutes, and found this truely gorgeous piece of bogwood, and got it for the bargain price of 20quid!

Just thought I would share some pics with all you lovely people, it'll make the centre piece from my big tank when I finally get round to doing it, just imagine it covered in flowering anubias! It'll look posivitely wicked!

Well that what I think anyway!

Sam

PS if anyone lives hear oxford there adding a new freshwater shrimp section, 8 species currently on a plane to the UK should be ready in a few weeks. Bloo - Ill see if they get any of those long nose things you wanted or has Chris sorted this one out for you? I make trips to London every other week so could bring them by hand rather than post?

Now the pics - top

Great hey?

Wow flippin heck, thats a cracking piece for such a bargain, bet it weighs a ton!
The first pic is quite deseaving, as it looks like an ordinary piece, but when you see it in the other pics its got such a great shape, great find Sam.. cant wait to see it in a tank of yours!

Wows, the possibilities. You could do a lot with that. If you are like me, you were in the store standing it at different angles and positions of the floor. I will sift through the boxes of wood, standing them on the floor, mixing them around. I'm sure the shopkeeps with I wouldn't but hey, perfect is perfect.

I did indeed, even put it back once, but couldnt pass up the opportunity!

cracking piece of wood mate. i know exactly what you mean. did you even bother telling any of your colleagues what you bought on your lunch break? lol i can see their faces now... £20 for a stick, WTF.

i spent £50 on the lump in my (now sold) cube. should have seen the misses face when i told her it cost me £25. we'll keep that one quiet or i'll be dead.

now do you have a bucket big enough to soak it in?

Actually mate, I’ve managed to convert two of my colleagues to fish, one now has 4 tanks of her own! But they aren’t into the planted side of things, yet anyway! Mwahhhh! But yeh the others prob wont give a dam!

Don’t worry your secret is safe with me :shifty:

The shop bloke told me it came out of someone's tank, was moving house or something, so shouldn’t need to soak it for very long if at all, gonna give it a good hard scrub first thou. Think I'll use the bin from outside if it does need a soak, there ain no way I’m getting it in the bucket I normally use!

Sam

nice one you got there!
what's the name of your lfs?
:good:

ahh great stuff, converting your colleagues at least you have people to talk "fish" with.

i'd give it a good soak and add melafix (or any antibacterial med) for a few days just to be sure. if it's come from another tank you dont know what infestations the previous owner had. in theory though if it's been dry for a while anything clinging on will be dead anyway. just a thought to be safe.

Yeh gives us something other than work to talk about when we do site visits!

I have melafix, but what med would you recommend? I have most of the interpet range? It looks to be completely dry and all the algae is well and truly dead, but as you say best not to take the risk.

Sam

no idea mate, i've never actually treated a bacterial infection but i do add a dollop of melafix if any fish sustain any fin damage etc..

just fill the bucket/bin and add a dollop. no exact science here it's just what i'd do in your situation. it cant hurt.

Oh ok, will do, cheers for the advice, would never have thought of that!

have you noticed any hikari flakes/pellets while you were there?
it's advertised on their website...
thanks!

TBH not sure mate, but they have pretty much everything you could ever need, and I mean everything! Is a huge shop, packed to the rafters! I have got algae waffers from them before, not sure if thats what you mean. If it is I have a half bag that I dont need anymore if you're interested?

If its on their website then 95% chance its in the shop, they keep it up-to-date Where you based then?

Great pieces of wood ! :good: I just went looking at my own lfs this weekend and they'are all rubish :(

Thanks Sam (and for the kind offer) :D I'm not sure at the very moment. I definitely want Red Long Noses as well as Crystal Shrimp - but they both cost a pretty penny (or many  ), so I'd certainly love to know what they get in if I haven't made up my mind yet which to go for by then.

I just spent a whole lot of money this weekend on bits & bobs :X so it will probably a while yet before I get the shrimp.
