My hugs for your on the loss of Bear. I just lost Betta Boy (in the corner) about a month ago and I, too, felt the way you did about Bear--like he was so sweet and cute--like he'd always be around...I did a lot of crying,too.

For me, this is one of the hard parts of raising bettas. It's so easy to become attached to them--and so hard when they pass on...But, I'm not giving up yet!

I acquired a sweet new boy about 2 weeks ago (not to replace Betta Boy)--just to give me a new friend for company. I'm still reluctant to give him a name...they all seem silly to me anyhow! He's sweet in his own right, but, of course, not as personable and puppylike as Betta Boy. It's hard not to compare! But I am enjoying raising him and getting to know him!
So be gentle with yourself. Know that you gave a lot of love to that guy and he looked pretty happy--was lucky to have you for his fish mommy. And I send you my prayers that you heal from this easier than you think you can.

i'm sorry for your loss as well. it just took me by suprise as i only got him maybe two weeks before and he was perfectly fine when i checked on him earlier. it just came as such a shock, especially because he was smaller and looked younger. i think i may have to get a hold of another rescue boy if i do get another instead of just any old betta. i think that may be why i didn't come home with any last night, they all looked fairly healthy.

Any idea what might have happened to him?

he was just gone. he looked perfectly healthy a few hours before when i was cleaning the tanks. i know i used dechlorinator and warm, not hot, water with a pinch of aquarium salt like i did for all of them. when i put him back in the tank he was right back at flaring at aladdin.

i've never had to watch one ill yet, i dont know if i could take that, i hate watching animals suffer.

sorry to hear about your loss, my boyfriend accidentally killed my betta steve and it was just terrible i was crying the whole day on and off.
