This is just to satisfy my curiosity more than any thing, but is there an alternative that can be used to feed fry other that BBS?

I know BFS are a suitable alternative. Basically, the freshwater equivalent of brine shrimp. Hatch and grow up in freshwater and the adults get bigger and more colourful than brine shrimp.

I don't know what size of betta fry you are talking about, but cyclops and vinegar eels are good too.

For very young fry, you can feed greenwater, which I've been told has good results.

Grindal worms, easy maintenance and as long as you feed them and keep them warm always available and very nutritious.

I thought you could only feed the gindal worms at 1-2months? Sorry i am new to this and want to do my best

Edit: Spelling

bfs?
greenwater?

well i took bfs to be baby freshwater shrimp and greenwater to be water with infusoria (not sure on spelling) but i could be wrong

green water is literally green water. i think it does have a bit of infusoria but it's mostly free floating algae

Greenwater is just that, water that is green due to having phytoplankton in it, usually Chlorella or Euglena species. Good quality phyto should have no infusoria in it, as the infusoria would just consume the phytoplankton. In nature it is very often first food of lot's of our aquarium species, and a very good one at that :).
Phytoplankton is relatively extensively used on the marine side of the hobby.

BFS is an abbreviation of baby fairy shrimp :good: . You can usually purchase cysts of a Thai species from eBay, like this auction or some Thai betta websites.

No, you can feed ADULT bettas newborn guppy fry...betta fry are even smaller than guppy fry and it is impossible for a betta fry to eat a guppy!!! LOL

I feed freeze dried TUbifex, and the babies are getting colorful. I hold a cube underwater, and squeeze to separate worms. They eat individual worms, and when newly free swimming, they would eat the clouds that would appear in the water. Careful, it's easy to over-feed.

try feeder guppie fry

what??? you cant feed bettas guppie fry...
you need bbs for the first month.

yes you can

guppie fry are around twice to 3 times as big as betta fry. i put a guppie fry into my newly hatched bettas 2 days ago and he started to eat them. i had to take him out.

grimmy, for future references , please dont reply to topics you no nothing about. it just adds to the confusion.
