i was thinking about breeding them in the future but I don't have a clue! Also Im afaird to breed them because the male is kind of aggressive. So i put their tanks together for the last 5 months. That helped them get used to eachother. So, can u hlep me?

I say go for it. Leave the female in the until he squeeze's the egg's out of her. Also, 5 month's!! You must really want to breed them! I think you should go with theese first, until you get the hang of it, and then go for more desired betta's.

I think you shouldn't. A; They're both VTs, and VTs are generally too common to want to breed. And B; If you bought them at a petstore, chances are they were at least 6 months old. Now six months + 5 months likely means they past the fertile age.

That little girl is ever so pretty
But seeing as you have 'NO CLUE' perhaps you shouldn't breed just yet lol

ok so uve had the tanks next to each other for the last 5 months, whats the behavior been like, has the "female" gotten tubbier and has the male been attemting to blow a nest or have they been flaring and going mad at each other.

hmmmmm i know where your going bettawen  it does look like a male, but at the same time my mind is thinking pk x sd/d female but the dorsal is too long for a female and the anal slighlty long but im convinced its a female dont ask me why it just my betta bits are telling me it is

anyhow back to the question itself, dont breed unless you know what your doing.

lol trust u modaz

Gosh you could be right Daz, I didn't think but could it be an RT male? Still so utterly pretty and I want it :D
Even so, my males blow nests at the sight of other males (well mostly my big poof boy Kai) but after 5 months I'm not surprised they don't bat an eyelid at each other. Seeing is another betta, male or female, every day for 5 months - they must be so over it by now lol

Yes, the male has blow bubble nests, the female hasn't gotten tubby, and they r always normal actually, they never minded each other.

Really, "she" could be a male? I have a few other pics if u want to see them...

Well, i do know a few things the breeding tank should be about a 5-10 gal, NEVER touch or move the bubble nest, (i think..) put hiding places 4 the fry, take out the female after the eggs r put in the bubble nest, take out the male (?) when the fry hatch.

I think your enthusiasm (spelling?) will lead to good things if you do your research first. The point of re housing 150+ spawn is a bloody good one lol. I know I'm breeding VT's very soon, but I've already arranged homes for them all (mostly to my lfs) and I've cleared a good part of my room out for extra space while they grow.

The one thing that I've picked up from, from everyone's helpful advice on here, is to research, research, and research. It would appear that a good knowledge base is essential before trying to breed. Seeing as you've admitted to not know much, I would step back from the rush and get down to some good old reading and asking questions. Even if you think the question is stupid, it's worth asking if it will help (of course its always worth checking to see if it has been asked on here before)

If you really want to give it a go, then ask your questions here and I'm sure, as I have found, that everyone here will be more than happy to provide useful and relevant information.

That as well, although I have read that males over a year in age have bred before, just not with the same sucess rate as they younger counter parts. There is a higher risk of it being too much for the male and/or the male turning really aggressive if the male is over a year.
