I have an 7 in long banded cat shark,in an 300gal aquarium. My sg-1.023,am0,ni0,na0-3ppm,temp80. ive had her for 4 days now and she still has not eaten. ive tried fresh frozen squid, krill, ghost shrimp(live),silversides, and raw shrimp, she wont eat anything! i drip acclimated her for 2 hours and ive checked my water parameters several times and keep getting no traces of toxins. all of my other fish are very healthy though. I guess her stubborness to eat is from stress of shipping from exoticfish.com/but if anyone has advice i greatly app. it!!!!!! :)

i had a banded shark once, i recieved it from a retail friend i met at a science convention. they supplied aquariums and livestock for classrooms, and was generous enough to give me on for free. i noticed these sharks get extremely stressed out when being shipped, and mine too would not eat. after several days it did die however, and i tried feeding market shrimp/squid, but it wouldnt eat. hopefully u can have better luck, especially with a bigger tank.

I aint one for specied fish in the marine world but, have you not tried actual live things.... like live bearing fish and fresh water shrimp (as they wld just go crazy then be eaten for they die). But unless its a comon fish to buy there is that risk as some times fish will not accept food for a good 5 days maybe longer!

Are you feeding from a stick or just throwing the food in? You need to get a hunting response.

It also might be worth looking at an earthing rod (titanium) for the tank as sharks are particular vulnerable to stray voltage from powerheads and heaters and lights.

:good: thanks for the advice, ill try an earthing rod.
also im putting the food directly under her nose in small chunks.

It may also be the lighting. What kind of lights are you running and when are you feeding. Banded bamboo sharks are nocturnal and usually feed at night. Also what are the other inhabitants of the tank, it may feel stress from them. It is recommended to keep sharks as a species only.

Unfortunately it doesn't look good for the shark. Does the company you ordered it from have a warranty?

I have an marbled cat shark 5in long 4 percula clowns, two blennies, small porcupine puffer, green mandrin, baby panther grouper(2in),an marron clown 5in,and thats all in my main 300 gal.besides some inverts--no anemones--tahnks for your advice. :D

It may also be the other shark or the grouper stressing it out. When I was planning my shark tank I was unanimously told groupers were a bad mix with sharks for competition reasons. A panther won't stay 2in for long :) !

First I'd try feeding at night or just after the lights go off. If that doesn't work maybe try its own tank until you get it eating (maybe use the sump if it has the room).

Thanks for your advice.I'll try to find my grouper a new home. They can grow very quick, and become aggressive, i think ill find him a new home. She (The shark)has started eating just this weekend by nightly feedings Thanks again!! :p :D
