Some pics of some of my blue badis (Badis badis)...
Overhere a male and a female... From those pics it's a bit hard to tell that one is a male. But his dorsal and anal fin have a pointy tip.

Online fish shop accidentally sent me 2 blue badis instead of scarlet badis. I've never had blue badis before. I wanted two new scarlets to add to my breeding group because I've been inbreeding them for four years.

I was enchanted by the blue badis and I told the shop I'd keep them. Problem is, the 2 blue badis can't co-exist in my hexagonal community tank because one is too aggressive. So, I moved one of them to my 40 gallon scarlet badis tank.

From what I've read, scarlet and blue badis won't typically interbreed and I don't want them to. There are currently 2 male & 8 female scarlets in the tank. The blue badis in the scarlet tank has been peaceful, but I don't want to stress out the scarlets or have interbreeding.

Curious if you have any thoughts or insights on this.

I ended up taking the blue badis out of the scarlet tank because some of the females were pursuing him to mate. I'm going to temporarily keep him in the community tank and will rehome one or both blue badis.

My badis didn't live very long and i don't really know why - maybe 8 months but he was very colourful; since i have no clue why he died and for that matter she died (i had them in a 10) i decided i'm not suitable to keep them.

I apologize for hijacking this thread. Pretty certain they can't interbreed, which makes sense being of a different genus (which I already knew, so I guess I should've figured that out before). Moved the bullied blue badis back to the scarlets' tank, where it's happy.

You are correct. They are not only two distinct species, they belong to two different genera and cannot successfully mate and reproduce.

I've never kept badis badis. I have a solo Dario dario in my Himalayan tank and I've thought about adding more. Nice little hidden gem that I only see occasionally. All of the information says they inhabit still water, but as far as I can tell the current in the 55 doesn't bother him. I suspect he's small enough that he simply stays in the quiet pockets.

I like Badis badis a lot. Someday...

I've got both species overhere. My blues are totally okay in one tank. So, are the scarlet badis ones... But I don't keep both species in the same tank.
