This is what my cousin has:

10gal

3 juvinile bala sharks
1 goldfish
2 Red-Top Zebras
4 Yellow labs
1 Aura
2 Honey Gouramis

Obviuosly the tank is way over stocked and on top of that they clean the tank once a month! I've told them countless times about stocking and caring for fish but they just won't heed my advice. What should I do? On top of that they plan on getting some more Red-Top Zebras!

Given that they refuse to take your advice you could either print off some info for them to read or stop looking at their tank as you're only distressing yourself, some people just don't care.

thats really crowded and for a 10 gallon! I don't know much about anything fish other than bettas but that is bad.

Just leave them. I'm sure that sometime the ammonia level will shy rocket and kill all there fish.

this is a sad fact but true.......... just HOPE AND PRAY that if it does happen they will learn something from it
Unfortunately that's unlikely to happen, they'll most likely just get more fish as they die off.

Often advice is better received if it's given in writing from a "reliable" source, that's why I suggested printing off the information and giving it to them. My LFS didn't believe that their Dwarf Neon Gourami's had the Iridovirus until I printed off the information for them and gave it to them and then I showed them what the symptoms look like by pointing out a sick fish in their tank, they no longer sell them now! They also have the Neon Tetra Disease, I haven't told them about that one yet, but I will as soon as I've sold them my molly fry!

yes its true that they might just go get more fish, but i have seen it happen where people lost most of thier fish and thats what it took for them to realize they screwed up. as jozlen said though try to get some information in writing and show it to them. if you have a water test kit take it with you and try to show them how to test the water, what the levels should be, and how to fix it....... information on paper will be a good thing to have at this point. if that doesnt get through to them then as much as you dont want to you will probably be best to step back, and help if asked. good luck

Bleh.... as others have said, unfortunatly there probably is nothing you can do. They obviously don't see fish as a living breathing animal. They only see them as disposable replaceable decoration.
You could try printing them off some info to help them, but if they haven't done anything with you telling them, I doubt they'll even bother to read any info you give them.

How much do you value your cousin's friendship? Could you take some of the fish yourself? I once "confiscated" one of my neighbour's dogs, and refused to give her back until they agreed to look after her( wasn't neutered, and they let her roam wild, so she kept getting pregnant, and noone ever saw the puppies. ) in the end they took her back, and had her spayed (but sadly still let her out on her own, and recently she was hit by a car :( )

i would steal the fish but thats just me :look: Luckily the balas(even if stunted)should get half the size of that tank so hopefully they will relise it is to small

My friend at work overstocks his tank and doesnt seem to care how big his fish will get, he has 3 clown loaches 2 6inch plecks 1 8 inch pleck and about 35 small fish and 8 silver dollars oh and a blue crab, its a 3ft tank. His fishes average life is about 4 months but he just wont listen when they die its just an excuse to buy a different type! Nothing you can do
