Hi Peeps,

I have a 4ft x 15 x18 which has been going along time now. Unfortunately because of moving house etc I had to set it up in a hurry, which meant there was no time to put the nice juwel stone background in the aquarium. I have all the pieces and some aquaria silicone. I was wondering.........can I drain half the water out the tank, make a groove in the substrate, put the pieces in place and only silicone the top 6 inches ? I cant see any problems doing this, and saves re-homing all the fish and taking out plants etc.

I can leave the eheim running and the heater this way. What you think ?

would it not trap tank water in round the back which wouldn't be getting circulated? If its not moving then i think it could lead to problems, bit like a dead unmoving river. (correct me if im wrong :D)

Hey wolf :good: Thanks for that.

Im not sure about the trapping water, but its a valid point.....I presume I would trap a small ammount, but im sure some gets in behind ones that you do while its dry doesnt it ?

Do you think this is a bad idea then ?

the juwel backgrounds have a lattice network on the back, this allows water to travel all arond the background
even if it is very slowly.

I've not had a problem since installing a juwel rock/root background in my 62G

Im about to seal my background inside my tank and was going to ask this. Im going to try to make it leak free it looks easy to do, but if its not and water does get behind is that really threating on my fish or it wouldnt really matter?

I doubt it matters too much, I have some backing in my Rio125 and havent sealed it, nothing gets behind it. My smallest fish are Neons and they dont even bother. So I wouldnt think so..
