I'm planning on, if I ever get enough money, to get a Rio 400 and am considering backgrounds.
I want a dark one. Not necassarily black And I dont wan to take a second mortgage for it either. I've wondered about paint.

Any other idea?

wat do you mean by paint are you just goin to paint it on a piece of paper then stick it on the tank?

personally i would've gone for a rocky sort of background but thats just me lol

No, paint the actual glass on the outside. I read it somewhere that someone else was going to do.
I currently have a Juwel black background on the inside on my 300 but not totally pleased with it.

the juwel tree / rock ones look great, but they are expensive espesially for a rio400. You can get black polystyrene one, I have it in my small quarantine tank. Cost about £3 a sheet and you stick it in with anything you like (I used miliput).

Its jet black and slightly textured....see if I can find a link...

I like the plain blue or black backgrounds.
BigC-The focus should be on the fish if you ask me, which is why I think a black or blue background is good as it enchances the focus on the fish and the tank decor.

Your link looks nice, but im very cheap and so is paint.

My personal preference is for a plain black background and I normally just get the rolls of plastic covered backgrounds from the LFS (normally about £2 per meter and is reversible with another colour on it).

Painting works but I like to have the option to change it quickly and without hassle if I want to later on.

I do like the textured backgrounds (you can get some really good looking ones). But most of them just take up way to much space.

+1

Ever conciderd just frosting the back glass? Ive seen that somwhere before.

I do like the textured backgrounds but as said, they do seem to take up alot of volume.

I've got a decent poster background of dark rocks on mine which looks pretty decent I think. The Juwel ones are ridiculously over-priced.

Not the best pic, but only one I've got with me at the moment.

That is a really good idea! Never thought about doing this but it could look really cool.

i normally use the backgrounds that u just attatch to the back with rocks and stuff on, but i find they make the tank look so dark, so ive took mine off, trying to get hold of some mirrored glass cut to size, but cant find anyone near by that do it!
