Hello , I need suggestions what to keep in a 30L tank

Its been ages since I have been on here. I remember last aug when I used to sit on here for hours looking at peoples lovely tanks!

Anyways after a very busy year Im back to restart my love of fishkeeping properly. I had 2 nice set ups going ( fluval flora 30L ) with one being a RCS tank and one being a planted tetra tank. Sadly I had to go abroad suddenly so Had mum take all my livestock to a fishkeeper friend of mine.

Came back last week to find the tank in a state, plants had mostly rotted , loads of algae and the fliters still running. Cleaned everything out (apart from sponges in the vain bacteria survived) and began recycling the tank (sigh)

4th day in ammonia was dropping daily and we had a nitrite spike :hyper: , 2 days onwards and we now have a cycled tank :D

I salvaged some plants which survived and they seem to be doing ok

How the tank used to look ( after first cycle in july 2011)

Looks like a scene of nuclear fallout

The setup above :

Fluval flora
2x 11W lights I think?
2x fluval nano filters
1x CO2 system

I am asking for some suggestions on what to stock the tank with, nothing too costly, last thing I want is to walk into the LFS and impulse buy :X . Also any suggestions on plants?

The tank is situated in the living room aka lounge :hey:

Will update this thread as I go along, and mods im sorry if this is in the wrong place :S

Betta, male guppies or Endler's, chilli rasboras, CPD?

One pointer; avoid anything that has horizontal stripes, as they'll all be relatively fast swimmers. Go for fish that have spots or vertical stripes, as they'll be more sedentary and more likely to be happier with less length of tank for swimming.
