A few weeks back i found a pair of kribs that had been given to my lfs and i enquired about the price. £20 for the pair they said, to which i thought why not! I could see mummy krib was fit to burst and i was informed they breed very regularly. I was told they had been in the shop for a week now, no signs of any infections so i took the gamble and put them in my 240L tank. So they went in on the Saturday and by Wednesday they had dug themselves a cave under a piece of bog wood and the female had laid eggs all over the surface of it. Fortunately i could peek in and look. today (close on to 10 days later from the egg laying), they appeared with about 40 fry :D

I have to say i think its the most rewarding sight i have had since i got back into owning fish. I dropped a pinch of liquify number 3 and hikari first bites on their heads and they seem rather pleased :) Well chuffed, will try sort some pics!

Being a relatively new tank (about 3 months old now) and not heavily planted im uncertain how they will cope, but i hope regular feedings of fry food wil give them a headstart in life, and i hope mum and dad dont view them as food if they decide to get jiggy again! Else they will be paying a visit to my new 90L tank upstairs a bit quick.

What else have you got in the tank with them? Kribensis are very aggressive parents so i think providing the fry stick some where near to them, the fry should do well. Maybe not 100% success rate, but 50% i guess.

i've got a selection of 24 cory's, 4 bolivian rams (which were attempting to breed but havnt got the hang of it yet) and yes, i know they get territorial too. then there are half dozen neons, half dozen black neons and 5 bleeding heart tetras. I have no BIG fish, if anything the kribs are the largest.

I've attempted to section them off in 1/4 of the tank with bogbood, its working quite well and not a lot else strays into that area else they get chased off

Tank (yes there are some corydora eggs on the front left below the bogwood, no time to look after them at the moment, off to Barbados at the end of the month :D

If there is anything in there that will have a go at the eggs/fry its the bleeding heart tetras, they have had a go at the corys plenty of times, knocking the eggs out from under them before they can lay on the glass.

I would say you have a very good chance of the Kribensis fry surviving in a tank of that size with that stocking! :good: You may have a problem if the Kribensis spawn again and leave the current fry to fend for them selves. They should still be fine though.

Btw, Kribs are of African origin so should be in the African/Old world cichlid section.

yeah i got the wrong forum by mistake, if a mod can move i would be greatful :)
