I have a baby frontosa who has not been eating lately and just seems down all the time. When the light is on, he usually stays in one place in the tank and is always breathing deeply (i can see his mouth opening and closing if that makes sense..) When i turn the light off he swims around a little bit but still ends up in the same spot. Hes always towards the bottom of the tank, most of the times it looks like he literally laying on the gravel. When i put food in the tank he will eat it and just spit it back out. Ive tried feeding him all types of pellets and flakes. He used to eat the flakes but now he is spitting them out. He looks alot skinnier than before and im very worried. It all started when I bought a new fish a few weeks ago. Its a jewel about the same size as my frontosa (1.5'') although hes getting bigger because hes been eating more. I fed them guppies yesterday and the frontosa was able to get one and the jewel had between 7 or 10. He is alot more aggressive than my frontosa and im worried this might be the problem. I dont see him getting "beat up," i do see them chase eachother every once in a while it looks like they snap at eachother i dont know if its playing or if its something more serious.. I dont know if i should get rid of the jewel or buy a divider for my tank. I have a 15 gallon tank and i use a bubbler to have more oxygen and make it feel as if it were bigger. The water has been tested and it is fine and I do water changed weekly. someone PLEASE HELP ME SAVE MY BABY :-(

How many fish and which type.
What test kit are you using, and need to look at water stats.

Has he lost the weight due to not eating.
Does he lean to onside when on the substrate.
Does he look pale or darker in colour.
Does he act listless and lethagic.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.

Also post this thread in the right part of the forum.

Also feed live guppys can lead to desease. There also not much vitamin content in them.

There are 3 fish in the tank all around the same size. I have an archer fish, the frontosa and the jewel cichlid. I took the water to the local fish store to be tested. I believe he has lost weight due to not eating. He doesnt look darker or pale but it looks like hes starting to lose color on his stripes. Sometimes i notice him leaning to one side. He appear listless and lethargic, he is always staying in one spot of the tank. When i feed them, he will sometimes eat the food but spit it right back out. Yesterday was the first time feeding them guppies and he tried to eat them, he ate one but was just too slow to get any other ones. When he was trying to eat them yesterday he was very slow, he'd swim up in front of the bunch and just stop and if they swam away he'd stay in place for a few seconds and then realize they swam away. I dont see when he goes to the toilet.. I believe this all started when i put the jewel in the tank. Do you think this could be something else? do you think he may be ill? He breathes very deeply but i spoke to someone today to try and find some answers and he told me that he just feels intimidated by the jewel and that the jewel may be bullying him. I put in a rock to create more hiding spaces and moved my drift wood to change the arrangement of the tank which is what the guy told me to do today (for now). Should i get rid of the jewel? Should i buy a divider? Please help me.

What's your location.
He showing some signs of a bacterial infection.
Leaning to oneside and acting listless and lethagic.
Spitting food out can also be a sign of bacterial infection, and not eating.

Is the fish anus enlarged or red and inflamed.
Spitting food out and not eating can also be a sign of internal parasites.

I would treat him with a bacterial med.

Don't feed live feeder fish they cause desease.

Bless Him.
He didn't sound good.

Did you notice anything else when you removed the fish from the tank.

Water changes for a few days.

R.I.P.
