Went away for a month on holiday, and came back to baby cockatoos! I guess the guy who came in to feed the cats/fish had the magic touch. They're about 1/2 a centimentre long, i can see about 5. They're in a community tank with guppies, rams, otos and their parents. Should i put them in a smaller tank on their own, or are they big enough to look after themselves now?

Any tips and advice appreciated!

Sarah

congrats on the new bunch,

if you want to keep them alive move the mother and the fry into another tank, and when the ffry have grown some more move the mother back and raise the fry by giving them crushed flake food and baby brine shrimp

I am sooooo jealous!!!! My cockatoos have spawned before in my community tank, but the female ate up the eggs (I think). Once I get my 10 gallon set up, I'm going to start moving the caves with eggs into it so that they can have a shot.

CONGRATULATIONS!

 That's great ,leave them for now and see what happens [ as long as your other fish are well fed ]if the fry are eaten the adults probably breed again , if that's the case then you can move them .

With the male guarding a larger territory , the female takes the best care she can of the fry , mine did while she lasted , she wore out [ died ]after the 3rd spawn .[ I am in need at least 2 females ]

I've read that if you have more then 1 female , they all look after the fry , I've read that , not witnessed it ..

I forgot to mention, that if it's their first spawn, they are very likely to "screw it up." I hear that either eating the eggs or eating the fry is very commonplace on the first batch. SO don't get upset if it happens, and ....Good luck!

I would leave them where they are. You may do more harm than good by moving them. The tankmates (except perhaps the rams?) won't cause them any harm and at this point, the parents will "probably" leave them alone too. Make sure they have places to hide where the parents can't get at them, although by the looks of your tank they probably already do. As they grow you may have problems since they will eventually be looked at as rivals, so you will need a plan in place to deal with that. Congratulations and good luck.
