my 16 or so fry are darting around the tank now, but mostly hideing, Ive tryed microworms and none of them would even touch them, I tryed baby brine shrimp, and one or two seemed to nibble, but thats it.

is this ok?> they arent starving?? can microworms go bad? they dont seem to be moveing at all to me, but the mix does not smell off and the things are ubber tiny so its hard to tell.

my baby brine shrimp are ones I hatched a month or so ago for the pink betta spawn. they are still good as long as they were kept in the fridge and in a heavy brine solution right?

I will just be gutted if these guys dont make it.

Not sure about the brine shrimp cos we hatch fresh every day for ours. I'm sure they are eating when you're not looking lol Any dead MW I usually suck up once they stop moving so it doesn't pollute the water too much. Other than that it's just a case of fingers crossed.......you may well lose some as we always seem to in the first week or two but hopefully some will survive :good:

thats the thing, the mc in the container dont seem to be moveing either. eeeee I just hope they are munching when Im not looking.

If you shine a torch onto it, it's easier to see them wriggling and easier again with a magnifying glass lol. Failing that you could try swishing a little bit of egg yolk into the tank for them :good:

But with the egg yolk be carefull not to pollute the tank....I would use it as a last resort really if you have nothing else!!!

you need to hatching your brine shrimp daily, a month old is too old and it wont benefit the fry at all, make up a new MW culture just add some of the old to the new one and you will prob find that it will become alive, you will get mw again to harvest within 48 hours, in the meantime give your fry the month old brine as its better than nothing, you wont be able to see the fry eat for atleast 2 weeks as its very hard to see them eat before this age but if there are no dead ones then they are eating, fry will die with 48 hours if not eating when in the first few weeks

if they are alive the are eating, try a little egg yolk ot the liquid fry starter, thats what i give my babies the first week then start them on the brine shrimp

well after I cleaned the tank this morning no one was dead, but I must go start the new cultures and more bbs.

That's good news :good: Fingers and toes crossed for you. We fished out another dead one this morning from our pk spawn  I keep telling myself it's nature getting rid of the sickly ones and we'll end up with very healthy strong babies in the end even if it's not many!!!

I know its the way to get rid of the weak and sick, and I also know that only starting out with 16 does actualy not give me great odds of any surviving to adulthood.

and crap crap crap I am pretty certain I killed my mc culture...shinned a flashlight on it and looked at it very close and nothings moving.

now Ive got to go find/start a new culture. I already started a new batch of bbs, those are bubbleing away right now.
