I wanted one until I read that larger fish will pick on them...especially with their gills looking like tasty bloodworms.

My fish would destroy an axolotl.....so sad because they are such fantastic creatures!

Yes, I have plenty of axo experience kept 6 in a 6ft tank all of them well over a foot long, Gomez actually got to 17inches before he passed away! What would you like to know? Also i know its abit naughty posting a link to another site but caudata.org is where you want to be searching!

In my experience the biggest challenge of keeping axos is keeping the water temp cool enough, you dont want it any higher than 16-18degrees (preferably nearer to 11-12deg), any higher than 18deg C and you will run into problems! It needs to feel "freezing cold" when you put your hand in. Cool is not enough!

Food is easy all you need is earthworms!

Substrate = Fine sand! No gravel, No pebbles just Sand or Bare bottom!

No fish as tank mates!!!!

Very cute little critters.
