I just got a new crowntail betta on friday of last week and he's settled in and eating well. Everyday I come home and look in his tank as he is swimming about happily and I see on the top of the water it is like completely covered with small bubbles, they are spread out in clumps of about 3 3mm bubbles all over. Is this an attempt at a bubble nest gone bad or just some bubbles. If this is a bubblenest failure should i be worried? I'm not going to breed him or anything but i was just wondering if it is a sign to a problem. Thanks for all the help

That's normal. Sometimes the nest will break apart if there is a bit of a breeze over the water or just if the nest isn't really that strong, everyonce and a it'll break if it doesn't have things to hold it in place like plants. At least to my knowledge.

A few of my boys did that for a while. I think it is just inexperience. They don't really know what they are doing, so it just kinda randomly goes all over the place. Once they get the hang of it they will make a bubblenest like you would probably expect. At least my boys did. :good:

Ok thanks. I was kinda thinking it was something like that. It must be inexperience because there is a fake sword plant in there with some of the "leaves" coming up out of the water so that is something I would expect him to build it on, it is also his favorite plant so I will be looking forward to in the future when he makes a proper bubblenest. Thanks again

Yea magnus(bettas name, latin for great) is a youngin so I'm sure it must be inexperience. Being older and making weaker nests makes since because its like how old people have weaker bones. Comes with age.

Oh, I dunno. My boy Mephisto is at least a year old, and he's built this:

Not bad for a store-bought veiltail.

I'm happy to say my boy magnus made a large bubblenest in his favorite plant just like I expected
