Ataeniobius Toweri

68-77 F?

where did he collect them?

these are from sulpher's lakes which are nateraly warmed waters and I've not heard of any being found at temps under 78F.

How ever in the hobby they are kepet lower just for the ease of it.
(mine are in 68F and happy, just no females)

I'm not very good with locations but I'll see what i can find on it.

How your females doing anyway?
Were short of females here in the uk ;)

I'm sooo jealous! Keep us updated on them!

I really need to get more rare Livebearers. *sigh*

Thie from Upper tributaries of the Rio Panuco with Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

The water again is spring feed from thermal springs and should be keeped slightly warmer than other goodieads

read this
http://www.goodeiden.de/html/toweri3.html

The temperatures are unusually high for Goodeids and should always be between 26 °C(77°F) and 28 °C (82°F). Ataeniobius toweri is prone to tuberculosis, so regular water changes (weekly approx. 30%) are advisable in order to prevent the disease.

This is common knolage and I've had these fish aslong as 15 years ago.

Like i said they handel lower temps for a few weeks but 68-77°F is not advised for long turm breeding projects.

You'll also find that at the warmer temps you'll get the stunning blue colour's show better

yes. I usually keep my fish at 78-82F The problem with goodeids is that if its's too cold, they won't feel like spawning. If it's too warm, they'll be chasing each other trying to breed but fertilizatino won't happen because they get (temporarily) sterile at higher temps.

BTH i find with all goodieads the cooler the better, and keepet most of mine at 70-74°F but some do prefer it cooler. This is due that most are from the centeral high lands where it's much more temperate and frost is even seen quite often.

G.multiraditaus at a friends has them at 58-65°F max over 70°F they die off quick.

some goodeids like it hot, some goodeids like it cold
All goodeids are best kept between 66f -74f some prefer to breed between 70f-74f most, goodeids will suffer and soon die if kept above76f,
fish 48

fish48 is exatly right, as i've tried to say in a post befor all goodieads are from the Highlands of Mexico. none are from the lower reaches and up there it's very cool.

if u want good strong fish follow are advice.
or read more at my site or www.goodeids.com/

I was stupid and kept my ameca splendens at 82 for a couple months. They lived and bred ok but that might be because it was domesticated for generations. (those weren't wild caiuht)

I have all my goodeids tanks under 78 now. Ameca splendens tank at 74, Other one with the aetenobius toweri is at 76.

Ameca are stunning fish and one of the first i ever had and why i love goodeaids know.

I too did not know back then and there was very few books around then on these fish.
