Hi,

This is my first post here (hello!) and I joined in search of answers regarding a very odd thing that I've just seen.

On Saturday I got my first ever assassin snail. I've been fascinated watching him (or her!) going about my tank eating my pest snails. Today I saw him do something I've never seen before. He was going along the gravel near the glass when he stopped, then he let a long thin appendage out of the back of his shell-opening. This was completely different to his usual appendage at the front (which I call his trunk). It was a similar thickness to the trunk but was pinker and more transparent. He then moved this new appendage right over a piece of gravel so that it was underneath the top layer of gravel, and then seemed to deposit (or poke about with) some little white things, during this time the rest of him remained completely stationary. The new appendage was surprisingly long, almost twice as long as the trunk, and very mobile and bendy. Is it some kind of egg laying appendage? or a fecal-waste depositing appendage? or something else entirely?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
(Please excuse my made-up names for parts of assassin snails)
