i have just set up my new tank and its in the cycling stage - i thort i would look into the overall look of my enviornment - so far i have all artificial plants not many tho so i think i need to look at getting some more to allow places for some fish to hide? the thing is tho - as my thermostat is stuck onto the back wall of the tank is it ok to put artificial plants in front of the thermostat or even touching it - will they get melted lol i have no idea??? i didnt put anything too near the thermostat or hiding it from view as i wasnt sure if u could have plastic plants touching it as it will be hot?? help would be appreciated? also is it ok if i dont have live plants - not just yet anyways as im a beginner??

I have never had a problem with putting plastic plants against the thermometer. Infact, some long ones I sometimes even wrap part of it around it.

also is it ok if i dont have live plants

Yea that's perfectly fine. I don't use live plants at all because I keep cichlids that like to drag plants around and move gravel all over the place. Apparently, they don't agree with my decorating ideas. :D
