Hi-

After doing a huge water change (almost completely--bacteria bloom I think we had-water visibility thick as pea soup) last nt on our 10 g tank where we have 2 adult dalmatian mollies and about 30 molly fry (most of whom are about to get a new home at my LFS by donation, I just realized this morning (from seeing the palmolive dish soap in the bathroom) that when I asked my husband to wash off our artificial plants last night THAT HE USED PALMOLIVE DISH SOAP!! (Did he just issue a death sentence to our fish in that tank?) I checked the water stats last nt. and this morning and they were normal.

Any suggestions on anything to do, or do I have to just "sit tight" and pray!!??

Regards to all, my fellow fishlovers, Wendy :shout: :shout: :shout: :shout: :shout:

I would do a water change but I don't think to much harm was done.

Thanks for the suggestion. My back is breaking from doing last nt's water change so I'd rather not--but if I have to, I have to.

My husband's still asleep so I haven't found out yet just how much soap he used and how much rinsing he did. I suspect the rinsing was thorough--that's the way he is.

Add some fresh black carbon as well.
Good luck.

Do a water change but, when you feed the water back in to the tank, do so via a shower head and don't forget to give the fish some shampoo and conditioner too. :)

(Sensible head on: That was a joke (don't want to be accused of reckless comments!))

i think all will be alright , us blokes tend to wash and rinse better than women :big_boss:

Seriously if you havnt noticed any ill effects already i doubt you will (remember the time any chemical is diluted into your tank in such a small trace it would be virtually non existent) not as though he has replaced them covered in soap suds that im positive is not the case.

How many times have we placed our hands in the tank to correct a plant or feed the fish by hand (im sure we have soap traces amongst other nasties present but are in such small traces that it does no harm what so ever).

Thanks to you, all my fishy friends, for all your support and great suggestions. And as for Kev, my husband (my favorite bloke who rinses well) and I were hysterical over your reply. And my husband, Marc, actually told me that (when his mom was alive) that his father used to complain about her not rinsing the dishes enough!!

I, on the other hand, rinse very well--even stuff sometimes just out of the dishwasher to get rid of any soap residue. But I do seem to remember back to a summer I spent living in London in 1975 where my very sweet flatmate, Jenny, would put the washed dishes in the drying rack with soapsuds still on them from the cold water she had washed them in!! (Re the cold water, this was an ancient flat in the west end of london, and we actually had a gas meter in the kitchen we had to put shillings in to get any hot water!! A real pain if it ran out in the middle of a bath!)

Anyway, the mollies seem to be doing fine and we actually got some real plants yesterday to replace the artificial ones--and I hear that should help keep the water clean. And Kev, good point about stuff on our hands!

Love to you all,
Wendy :) :) B) :D     :santa: :santa:  :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :band:
