His immune system is probably pretty battered, and the stress of the illness will also likely make it harder for him to fight it. It drives me crazy that I can't even recommend you keep him warm because the columnaris thrives in warm water . . . I hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend a salt bath because of, as you mentioned, the stress, but it still might help him pull through . . .
