I disagee.

Our primary aim should be the welfare of the fish, and I for one feel obliged to point out any potential problems, whether it's related to the original post or not.

So did I do the right thing or not? I'm confused.

OP doesn't look like she's popping back any time soon anyway, so you may never know the tank size!

Tank size is a perfectly relevant question in this case, it's not a guppy. I don't see it written anywhere that you must only stick the original question someone asked in case you hurt their feelings or annoy them somehow. It's a fish forum. So I ask about the fish!

I disagree if someone asks me a question id answer it and then ask my own

I have to agree lloyd, thats the approach i would take.
At the end of the day we all made mistakes and no doubt someone else helped us, whilst tank size etc is very relevant we need to answer the question asked first then ask more.
