what is best???? iv had alot of people telling me argos sand, but yet i read every where else toys r us sand

would argos sand still be safe to use even if washed thourghly

Forget about the brand name on your sand. What you want is sand that is clean and will not impact your pH or any other parameters in your tank. That means that the chosen sand cannot affect pH nor mineral content of your water. When you get to that point you will be looking at the effects of bringing the new water chemistry into perspective as the latest of many chemical possibilities. Many of the possible sand additions can mean a change of the water responses to various chemicals. The end result is a need to investigate the actual impact of your potential substrate yourself. If I could look past the trade name of your substrate to the actual content of the sand, I would do so.

apart from the need to wash (argos) both are the same, and safe. too many people, over too many years, have used it with no problems. neither has anything harmful to fish, nor humans come to that.

mind you, if you do a lot of tanks. silica dust is not too healthy, for humans.

i have argos sand in my 100o litre 7 foot tank with stingrays and it is absolutely fine, doesn't affect my ph and all fish are very happy. its exactly the same as the toys r us stuff but cheaper, i used a toys r us sand on a tank a while back and it was just as dusty as this argos stuff, so a waste of money in my opinion
