Argh! Algae

Ther's loads of horrible brown algae on my glass at the front of my tank and it's turned some stones that are by that glass a funny colour too.

I do have the light on in there all day till about 11 at night. I have a zebra nerite snail coming tomorrow who will hopefully clean things up but I'm so tempted to just clean it now.

Does anyone else have this problem? Do you think the snail will do the trick?

Too much light, cut down your hours to about 8 a day, Brown algae is common in new tanks due to the unstable traces of ammonia present, increasing your circulation will help also as it will disperse the ammonia quicker, reducing the chance of algae.

The less light the better until the problem is fixed, your fish won't mind at all, then aim for between 6-8 hours per day, a timer plug is handy for this. In the mean time try some otocinclus affinis, get at least 4 if your tank and community can take them. Also reduce your feeding, excess food and detritus along with too much artificial or natural light are the main causes of algae and diatom.
