Hello all,
First off I better say Hi as this is my first post, I've recently got back into fish keeping due to an offer I couldn't refuse on a tank. I used to keep fish about 18 years ago until my son thought it was a good idea to throw a marble at my 4ft tank ! Since then I've only had small 2 ft community tank but due to offer I thought I would try my hand at some cichlids.
I would like some help please identifying some fish I purchased with a tank a couple of weeks ago. I re-housed the fish in a new 4ft tank I had prepared and have been trying to identify correctly what the 2 cichlids are. I woke this morning to find the female laying eggs inside a new pot I added only this weekend so I guess they like it !
I just want to make sure I give the young the best chance to survive as the tank is populated with a few other fish + the parents. I have a another tank which is now ready, should I move the pot with the eggs to spare tank or should I leave with the parents and try and collect the young once they have hatched ?
From looking at pictures and some of their previous young ( 4 of these came with the tank) They seem to me to be Jack Dempseys but could some of you experts please confim this.
The picture..
1.Shows the male guarding the entrance

2.Shows male and female.

Many Thanks
