Are There Any African Cichlid That Arent Very Aggressive?

What are the least aggressive of the africans? Are any suited for a community tank?

Kribensis cichlids. Otherwise, they're not really community fish. Kribs can even be a tad aggressive. I'd avoid africans for any community tanks. They should really be kept with other africans.

Kribs are fine until they breed, which they will if you get a male and a female (well breed or kill one of them). Once they have babies though they will take over your tank like little psycho's, if another fish so much as moves a muscle they will chase it away. That's my experience of them anyways, my Kribs now have my 125l to themselves and their babies, who i expect will be next on the hitlist once their next brood hatch.

Other than that though they're beautiful wee colourful characters with lots of interesting wee quirks, like digging holes and forming massive mounds once you've just nicely re-scaped the sand in your tank etc.

Hmmm.......I'm beginning to question why I have them now.......

Anomalochromis thomasi (African Butterfly Cichlid) is probably up there as being the most peaceful.

Any reason you want to restrict yourself to Africans ? There are some very peaceful central and south american ones.

Should I do whats been done in the past an recommend a Jewel or Demosani? IM KIDDING!

I am on board with everyone else. Africans should be kept with other africans as even the most peaceful ones will wreck a community if they feel threatened. But having a tankful of africans cichlids isnt a bad thing. they come in an array of beautiful colors and you can have a tank just as colorful as any other tropical community

i have yellow labs and they are not overly aggresive, usualy all seen together but occasionly they will have a wee chase around

yellow labs can be real agressive! my most vicious fish was a lab! i find afra types pretty chilled out!

Anomalochromis thomasi, as was stated above are very peaceful. Also Neolamprologus multifasciatus are not very aggressive, but that all dpeneds on the specific temperament of the fish you buy.
