Hi, my cichlids keep scratching themselves in the sand and on rocks in the tank, i am not sure whats going on... i dont think its Ich because as far as i know they would have white spots which they don't, so anybody who can help please do, will be much apprciated.

I think they are peacock cichlids as one of the other members suggested from looking at these pics:

If they are eating well, and acting normal other than playing in the sand and on the rocks, than they are probably doing just that - playing, digging, scratching, etc. My cichlids do that all the time. However, if you notice any severe scratches or injuries, than you may want to replace any rocks that have sharp edges with more dull ones :good:

ah ok, they are eating well and no signs of any scratches or anything. I guess its nothing but i will keep a close eye on them, thanks very much for your help demasonisrule.

Yup, the behavior you're seeing is typical breeding/aggression displays.

As with all types of fish, the first thing you should be doing if you feel that abnormal behaviour is present is reach for your water testing kit.

If you have no ammonia or nitrite present and your nitrates are a safe level and with no significant change in the pH or water temperature then that is a good place to start :good:
