So, Ive been watching my tank very close for two days. I know my plec died sometime while I was on vacation out of town. While watching my tank these last days, Ive noticed that the tetras seem to be trying to bully my swords. Ive even seen them slam into the corys on the bottom of the tank. Is this normal? if not, what could be causing the aggression? If I need to re-home the tetras, Im not as attached to them, but I love my swords and platys.

Its pretty normal for Black Widows (Skirt) Tetras... they are big, hardy, bolshy and down right bullies when they feel like it, often real fin nippers too... if you like the shape of the species but want better temperments... look at black phantom, red phantom or rosy tetras.. or white fin bentosi (ornate) tetras :)

It wasnt so much the shape as the size. I was looking for a schooling fish that is big enough so Sydney wont eat them...

Sydney?

You don't have any fish in your sig likely to eat small fish... though maybe risking endlers and micro species with the gourami... most other tetras will all be fine!

EDIT: just saw the syno LOL yeah... maybe bigger species of tetra needed!! Anything fast (silvertips are good for that!) or deeper in body like ones already mentioned.. or red eye tetras etc...

Yeah. Ive had sydney and the swordtails the longest(bout a year). SO theyre the ones Im most attached to. I made arrangements with my lfs to rehome the tetras in the next day or two. I think Ill let the tank be for awhile so the fish can settle down. Not adding anything new for a few weeks.

Hey Just wondering, would the 5 black skirts be okay in a 10g tank by themselves?

I guess they would :) would be better with more space but tbh, just them in that sized tank.. I personally would try it :)
